PURPOSE:To raise deodorizing, mildewproofing and sterlizing effects by providing parallel to a heat exchanger in an indoor unit a reflection plate on which an optical catalyst layer is formed which is excited when the rays of a mildewproofing lamp to oxidize and decompose components of bed odor in the air circulating in a room is received. CONSTITUTION:The indoor unit 1 of an air conditioner is provided with a deodorizing and sterlizing device 4 parallel to a heat exchanger 2. The frame of the deodorizing and sterlizing device is provided with a plurality of reflection plates 5a-5e with an optical catalyst. The reflection plates are arranged crisscross. End sections of the bottom plate 6a, ceiling plate 6b and dew receiving pan 8 of the deodorizing and sterlizing device are provided with a reflection plate. When the ultraviolet rays and sterlizing rays from a sterlizing lamp 7 hit those reflection plates, OH radicals are developed from the optical catalyst layer which consists of N-type semiconductors such as titanium oxide, and because those OH radicals are strong oxidizers, they oxidize and decompose components of bad odor such as methyl mercaptan and remove bad odor.
