To avoid noise emissions in the operation of blow-moulding machines, initially an outwardly closed cavity 22 is built up around the mouth end 9 of the parison 3 and sealed off from the blow mould 5. Only then is the penetrating movement of the blowing mandrel 7 into the parison 3 effected outside the cavity 22 and the blowing operation is already initiated outside the blow mould 5 at the beginning of and during the penetrating movement of the blowing mandrel 7 into the parison 3. The blowing air emanating from the mouth opening 9 of the parison is then taken up by the cavity 22 and passed on from the latter via a silencer (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
