The tape cassette has a supply tape reel and a pick-up tape reel. After loading the tape cassette into a recording and/or playback machine, a drive shaft engages from below in the supply tape reel and rotates it centrally. The pick-up tape reel is mounted on a fixed shaft and is driven eccentrically, by a rotation-transferring gearwheel engaging through a window formed in a side wall of the cassette housing and meshing with a toothing section on the outside of the lower flange of the pick-up tape reel. By this design, the diameter of the pick-up tape reel, and consequently the entire tape cassette, can be made considerably smaller. The then smaller tape cassette can be used both in a compact machine specially designed for it and in one of the previously customary standard machines of larger design, by in the latter case being placed in a tape cassette adapter of the shape and dimensions of a standard cassette. |
