PURPOSE:To enable many times of casting using a metallic mold and to execute casting having a little restriction for shape of product by arranging a thin layer of ceramic on the inner face of cavity for the steel-made metallic mold in the production of iron castings. CONSTITUTION:Split molds 1A, 1B, providing an intermediate room 5 by double construction between an inner wall 11 forming of the cavity 4 in the metallic mold and an outer wall 12 containing of the inner wall, and arranging the thin layer 2 of the ceramic on the cavity face, are assembled. The thin layer 2 of the ceramic arranged on the inner face of the cavity in the metallic mold prevents direct contact between the metallic mold and the molten metal, and prevents the burning, and also rapid temp. drop of the molten metal caused by contacting with the metallic mold is reduced. In this way, as the wear of the mold is reduced, many times of casting and casting which is run into the thin part, are obtd.
