PURPOSE:To improve the characteristics of magnet by a method wherein a green compact is sintered in the Ca or Mg vapor which is easier to be oxidized than a rare-earth metal. CONSTITUTION:When an R2T14B magnet (R indicates a rare-earth element containing Y, and T indicates a transition metal) having Nd, Fe and B as the principal ingredients is manufactured using a powder metallurgy, a powder molded body is sintered in a Ca or Mg vapor atmosphere. As Ca or Mg is preferentially oxidized by sintering the green compact in Ca or Mg vapor, the oxidization of the green compact while it is being sintered can be prevented, the temperature of sintering is lowered, Hc is improved, and the characteristics of magnet are improved markedly due to the lowering of the oxide phase in the sintered body. |
