A process for the partial surface decoration of moulded articles, in particular of plastic moulded articles, by covering the surfaces to be excluded from the decoration and decorating the uncovered surfaces is described. The process is characterised in that the covering is carried out with a plastic shrink film or a heat-deformable plastic film. In this manner, an effective covering, which is simple to carry out, of the surfaces of moulded articles to be excluded from the decoration can be achieved and this makes possible a sharp boundary between the decorated and undecorated surfaces and also makes it possible to carry out the entire decoration process continuously. The process is suitable in particular for metallising plastic moulded articles by vapour deposition in high vacuum.
