PURPOSE:To produce faujasite, having high activity and rich in hydrothermal resistance with good productivity in a simple process, by firing the titled zeolite containing coexisting chlorine ion in a steam atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Ammonium-exchange faujasite with >=50% ammonium exchange ratio containing coexisting >=0.01wt% chlorine ion is fired at 400-900 deg.C in an atmosphere containing >=10vol% steam to produce faujasite type zeolite, having high activity and rich in hydrothermal resistance. Alkali components in the faujasite can be reduced to an extent not to affect the hot water resistance simply by bringing the resultant hydrogen type faujasite in a slurry state into contact with an aqueous solution or an ammonium salt or strong acidic cation exchange resin and the aimed faujasite, rich in hydrothermal stability and having a high molar ratio (SiO2/Al2O3) can be obtained.
