A device is created for calibrating scanning radiometers during operation, especially line scanners for aircraft and space vehicles, the calibration being carried out by a radiometric comparison measurement, to be precise by comparing the signals from the scanning radiometer and at least one additional so-called calibration radiometer from the same measurement object in each case. In this case, according to the invention, either the same detector system is used for the scanning radiometer and for the calibration radiometer, or the same detector systems are used, or the same optics and the same detector system or the same detector systems are used in each case. The device according to the invention can be used particularly advantageously if exactly the same spectral sensitivity is required and if, furthermore, any uncertainties resulting from functional disturbances (functional defects) for example in the calibration radiometer are intended to be precluded.
