PURPOSE:To detect an up/down direction registering error between respective colors accurately by performing a photoelectric detection, obtaining distances to respective sides crossing perpendicularly and operating the distances between the centers of marks. CONSTITUTION:When respective mark 121-132 are detected sequentially and optically on a detection line 11 with reference to referential point Po, by means of a reflective type optical sensor in accordance with the transfer of a roll paper, distances D0-D7 to respective perpendicularly crossing sides 12a, 13a and oblique sides 12b, 13b of respective marks 131-132 are obtained according to the difference of detecting time. Considering the distance D0, D3, D4, D7 to respective perpendicularly crossing sides 12a, 13a, an up/down direction registering error DELTAD1 can be obtained by the following formula, DELTAD1= d-D=1/2[(D7+D4)-(D3+d0)]-D, wherein (d) is an actually measured distance between respective centers Pc1, Pc2 based upon the perpendicularly crossing sides 12c, 13c of an original pattern with respect to respective parts of marks 121, 131 and 122, 122 thereby the up/down direction registering error DELTAD1 can be obtained based upon D0, D3, D4, D7. |
