PURPOSE:To remove only the pollutant layer without exfoliating precoating layer and to easily recover performance by quickly changing the flow rate of water to be treated, thereby selectively removing the pollutant layer deposited on the precoating layer. CONSTITUTION:The flow rate of the water to be treated is quickly changed, by which shearing force is imparted to the pollutant layer on the precoating layer formed on filter media 1a and only the pollutant layer is selectively removed. The quick change of the flow rate of the water to be treated is executed by, for example, quickly changing the opening degree of a circulating flow rate regulating valve 5 or 7 installed to regulate the flow rate of the water to be treated to a prescribed value or starting and stopping a circulation pump 4. As a result, the amt. of the precoating material to be used is decreased and the number of operations to form the precoating layer is decreased.
