For the production of an individual plastic cast model for dental cast objects, the process provides for the plasticatable plastic sheet (27) to be used for this purpose, during its plastication phase under a heating device (28), to be prestretched to a certain extent by means of a vacuum generated in a vacuum chamber located below the heating device (28). To determine or specify the extent of the prestretching, an optoelectrical scanning device (LS) is arranged in the vacuum chamber and responds when the film sags by the specified extent and controls a device by means of which the heating device (28) is switched off and, which for the subsequent thermoforming, positions the film holder (25) bearing the film over the casting or thermoforming model (11) and lowers it into the plane of said casting or thermoforming model (11). <IMAGE>
