PURPOSE:To drive a character string into the preceding page when a small number of characters of this character string exists in the next page, by setting the length of intervals of characters and symbols in optional document information. CONSTITUTION:If the trailing part of document information or that of a sentence in document information will be in the next page or line when a series of document information are outputted to a prescribed output device, intervals of characters in the preceding part of document information are shortened and characters which will be in the next page or line are driven into document information of the preceding page or line to generate documents easy to read. That is, intervals of characters of the character string set by an area setting means are set by a character interval setting means. It is discriminated by a discriminating means whether a part of document information in the line just following the line where the character string set by the character interval setting means exists can be driven into the preceding line. If it is discriminated that it cannot be driven there, intervals of characters in the line where said character string exists are corrected by as correcting means to make the line width approximately constant.
