PURPOSE:To make effective secondary combustion of CO by forming the apertures of the injection holes of a top blowing lance having the injection holes for introducing O2 to make secondary combustion of the gaseous CO formed in a metallurgical furnace to a shape having a large degree of deformation. CONSTITUTION:The gaseous CO formed in the metallurgical furnace is subjected to the secondary combustion by the top blowing lance having plural pieces of the injection holes for introducing O2. The apertures of the injection holes of the top blowing lance are formed to such a heavily rugged shape at which the degree of deformation expressed by the equation lD0/4S exceeds 1, and attains more preferably about >=1.4 (c-h). The contact area of the outside surface of the gaseous O2 jets in the injection holes and the CO stagnating in the furnace are thereby increased (to induce the disturbance of the gaseous flow fluxes), by which the intrusion of the gaseous CO into the O2 jets is increased and the exothermic reaction (secondary combustion) is accelerated.
