PURPOSE:To make a retrieval operation into efficiency, by providing a storage control means which controls the storage of an image based on a type data representing to which type of typical image belongs each of plural kinds of typical images when they are stored at a storing means. CONSTITUTION:In the titled system, the number of lines of a subscanning, and the number of dots of a main scanning(one line) are set at a control circuit within a host computer 7 by a command input, corresponding to the value of a reading size and resolution, and command signals for the reading size, the resolution, and magnification are outputted to a microscanner 1, and at the time of storage, the storage of the image is controlled based on the type data(the number of lines of the subscanning and the number of dots of the main scanning) representing to which type of the typical images belong the images. The microscanner 1, when receiving a read command, scans the image of a film frame by a CCD according to a commanded reading size, resolution, and the magnification, and makes it into an electrical signal, then outputs it to the host computer 7 side. The host computer 7 side stores a sent image data on a memory 15, and displays it on a CRT9. In this way, a work to improve the retrieval operation can be performed efficiently.
