A conveyor belt is formed from a core member 11 of greater lateral stiffness than longitudinal stiffness covered on at least one side by a cover layer. Preferably the belt is formed by a corrugated core 11 of a plastics material, such as acronitrile butadiene styrene, which may be reinforced with polycarbonate or glass fibres. This corrugated core layer is surrounded by polyurethane foam which forms cover layers and defines cable-receiving shoes extending along the conveyor. The corrugations give the belt lateral stiffness but longitudinal flexibility to allow the belt to trough between supporting cables, in use, but to pass around guide drums at the ends of it travel. The core member is passed through a mould where the cover layer is applied continuously. If the cover layer is not self-skinning a skinning layer may also be applied. <IMAGE> |
