<p>PURPOSE:To manufacture a fuel cell having characteristics of high power and a long service life by applying ultra-sonic wave power to a matrix layer to enhance its impregnation characteristic when it is impregnated with an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:In an unit cell, are arranged a pair of electrodes 3 provided with ribs and sheets of catalyzer 2 normally made of porous material on their both faces, while sandwiching a matrix 1 impregnated with phosphoric acid serving as an electrolyte. Liquid fuel and liquid oxidant are supplied in respective flow passages 4 located mutually on opposite sides with respect to the matrix 1. The matrix 1 is formed of a thermally and chemically stabilized porous material, because it is impregnated with an electrolyte. Then, impregnability of matrix 1 with the electrolyte is enhanced to reduce any scatter of the impregnability by applying ultra-sonic wave power to the matrix 1 when the matrix 1 is impregnated with the electrolyte. Thus, the characteristics of both the output and service life of a fuel cell can be enhanced.</p> |
