PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a production intermediate for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, dyes, etc., in high yield and purity, reducing the residual amount of added amine in the product, by brominating 2,5-dichlorophenol using a specific amine salt. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by brominating 2,5- dichlorophenol with a bromination agent such as bromine, bromine chloride, etc., in an inert organic solvent (preferably mono-chlorobenzene, etc.) in the presence of an amine derivative salt of formula (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl or cycloalkyl; X is Cl, Br, I or bisulfate group) (preferably 2,5-dietylamine hydrochloride) preferably at 0-80 deg.C for 3-20hr. The amount of the bromination agent is preferably 0.9-1.1mol per 1mol of 2,5-dichlorophenol when bromine is used as the agent. EFFECT:By-production of 6-bromo-2,5-dichlorophenol can be suppressed. |
