PURPOSE:To smoothly diffuse a reaction gas onto a reaction interface and to make the transfer of electrolyte to a matrix easy by forming a catalyst layer applied onto the anode surface of a fuel cell with a hydrophilic catalyst layer and a water repellent catalyst layer in a perpendicularly intersecting direction to a gas passage groove. CONSTITUTION:A gas passage 10 for fuel gas is formed on one side of an anode 2 made of a conductive porous substrate, and a catalyst layer 1 is formed on the other side. The catalyst layer 1 is formed in a perpendicularly intersecting direction to a gas passage 10 by mutually arranging at a specified distance hydrophilic catalyst layer 1a and water repellent layer 1b each of which has a given width. The water repellent catalyst layer 1b makes gas diffusion good and the water repellent catalyst layer 1a makes the transfer of electrolyte to a matrix good. |
