This hand-powered merry-go-round is of the type comprising a rotating body 2 mounted freely in rotation about a stationary vertical shaft 3 carried by a base resting on the ground. On the one hand, provision is made for a pulley 9 with vertical axis, mounted on the vertical shaft 3 with interposition of a free wheel mechanism 11 and, on the other hand, for an endless belt 12 partially surrounding the pulley 9 and stretched by at least one return pulley 13, 14, 15, each of which is mounted freely in rotation on a shaft 13a, 14a, 15a carried by the rotating body 2, a manoeuvring member linked to one of the strands of the endless belt 12 being provided so as to be capable of being actuated by a person mounted on the rotating body 2 in the direction tending to cause the pulley 9 to rotate in the direction opposite to that of the free wheel. <IMAGE>
