摘要 <p>A stepping staff (10) which comprises a plurality of sections (12, 14, 16) coupled together in telescoping manner. A sighting target (26) is arranged on the uppermost section (16). The sections (14, 16) have a plurality of sets of D dents (50A, 50B, 50C, 50D) with which collars (20, 24) are engaged. The collars (20, 24) enable the sections (14, 16) to be rotated relative to one another to bring a corresponding set of D dents (50A, 50B, 50C, 50D) on the sections (14, 16) into alignment with one another. The collars (20, 24) have engaging members (56, 74) which locate in D dents in the set of D dents (50A, 50B, 50C, 50D) and enable the sections (14, 16) to be moved relative to one another and to the section (12) by an integral number of distances corresponding to the spacing of the D dents in the set of D dents (50A, 50B, 50C, 50D) by locating the engaging member (56, 74) in appropriate D dents in the set of D dents (50A, 50B, 50C, 50D).</p>
