PURPOSE:To vary the direction of rotation and speed by disposing a strain element giving vibrations in the axial direction and a strain element giving vibrations in the circumferential direction to a friction plate and elastically bringing an inertial plate with an output shaft into contact with the strain elements. CONSTITUTION:A rotary actuator is constituted by elastically bringing an inertial plate 3 continuously connected at one end of an output shaft 2 into contact onto a friction plate 1 supported into a housing H. The friction plate 1 takes a discoid shape, and strain elements 4, 5 giving vibrations are each arranged in the axial direction and the circumferential direction in the vicinity of the friction plate 1. With the strain element 4, a base end section 4b thereof is fixed onto the inner surface of the housing H, a free end 4a is connected to the center on the back side of the friction plate 1 by a torsion bar 6, and the friction plate 1 is given vibrations in the axial direction. The strain element 5 is organized similarly, and the friction plate 1 is given vibrations in the circumferential direction. Accordingly, the phase of vibrations given by each strain element 4, 5 is altered, thus freely changing the direction of rotation and rotational speed of the output shaft 2. |
