PURPOSE:To obtain an oxygen sensitive materials which generates a color change by reacting with oxygen by using an oxygen absorbent consisting of an aq. alkaline soln. of the transition metallic salt complex of the azacrown compd. expressed by a specific formula. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of a dialkyl malonate and alkyl halide is caused in the presence of a catalyst such as sodium alcoholate by using a solvent such as ethanol to form the alpha-dialkyl malonate. The formed alpha-dialkyl malonate is brought into reaction with a polyamine. These two reactions are caused in the solvent such as, for example, ethanol within the prescribed reaction temp. range while dry gaseous nitrogen is blown thereto at need so that the azacrown compd. expressed by the formula is formed. The aq. alkaline soln. of the transition metallic salt complex of the azacrown compd. prepd. in such a manner shows a pale purple color and if such soln. is preserved in a gaseous nitrogen atmosphere, the change of the color is not admitted but when the soln. is once exposed to the atmosphere in contact with oxygen, the color of the soln. changes to yellow. The detection of the oxygen is thus made possible.
