PURPOSE:To eliminate disturbance for the detection of a discrimination pilot signal in a reproduction time, and to perform an accurate discrimination, by overlapping and recording the discrimination pilot signal on an audio signal for every other track in a track width direction. CONSTITUTION:When a head switching pulse S1 is positioned at an L, and a change-over switch 4 is positioned at a channel B side in a PCM sound recording time, a control signal S4 is sent to a discrimination pilot signal generator 12 from a controller 11, and the discrimination pilot signal is overlapped and recorded on a track B, not on a track A. In the reproduction time, the discrimination pilot signal is detected by deriving the output of a regenerative amplifier 8b of channel B. In such a case, since no discrimination pilot signal is recorded on the track of channel A even when a stroke is present from the track of channel A, no disturbance for the detection of the pilot signal occurs, and therefore, the accurate discrimination can be performed.
