PURPOSE:To produce a multicolored dial for a timepiece having stable quality at a low cost by coating the surface of a material to be treated with a different kind of metal, partially removing the metallic coating and carrying out nitriding to color the base material and to cause diffusion. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a Ti material A is coated with metallic Ni B to form a composite material and the Ni coating B is partially removed by etching. Nitriding is then carried out to color the Ti material A golden. At this time, the Ni coating undergoes no change. Thus, a muticolored dial for a timepiece having stable quality is obtd.
