PURPOSE:To improve corrosion resistance as well as recording and reproducing characteristics by forming a photomagnetic recording layer consisting of a specific material and constituting a specific protective layer to protect said layer. CONSTITUTION:At least the photomagnetic recording layer 3 is formed on the substrate 1 and protective layers 2, 4 to protect the layer 3 are formed. The photomagnetic recording layer 3 is formed of an RE-Fe-Co-Ti alloy and further RE is a rare earth element having 18-35atom% content of the entire amt. of the RE-Fe-Co-Ti alloy or the alloy of >=2 kinds of the rare earth elements. The protective layers are formed of the covalent bond of any among Si-Al-N, Si-Al-O, Si-Al-O-N, Si-O-N and Al-O-N consisting of silicon Si, aluminum Al, oxygen O and nitrogen N. The photomagnetic recording medium which has the high corrosion resistance and excellent photomagnetic characteristics, is provided with the substantial protection performance by the protective layers and is improved in the corrosion resistance and the photomagnetic characteristics is thus obtd.
