Device for driving via a piezoelectric transducer the displacements of a movable element forming part of a telescopic shock absorber with respect to a fixed part. It comprises first means 11 for emission of a pressure wave, preferably ultrasonic, and first electrical means for detection of the pressure wave which are fixed to the movable part 3 or to the fixed part 1, 2 in order to direct the pressure waves towards the other of the movable 3 or fixed 1, 2 parts and in order to detect the reflected waves, respectively, and a processing and control circuit linked to the means 11 for emission and detection of the pressure wave and designed in such a way as to deliver electrical signals representing the time elapsed between the emission of the pressure waves by the emission means 11 and the reception of the corresponding echo signal by the detection means 11. <IMAGE>
