PURPOSE:To make a head dedicated to a servo writing and a load mechanism and to precisely position a magnetic head by forming a servo pattern through the use of the head of a magnetic disk device. CONSTITUTION:A servo area consists of a synchronizing part 31 including an erasure part 34, a position information part 32 and a synchronizing information part 33 excluding an erasure part. A stepping motor 51 is excited by a current with of two phases, and servo information excluding position bits 36-39 in the information part 32 is transmitted to an RTZ circuit 58 from a servo pattern generator circuit 57, and writing by a magnetic head 40. Next the motor is excited by a one-phase current to write servo information in a similar way. After said procedure is executed, the motor 51 is executed by a 1.5 phase- current, and servo information excluding the position bits 36-39 is written in a similar way. If information is written in such a way, a pattern with a normal track width can be obtained at a position of 1.5 phases as pieces of information 33 and 35 shows.
