SUBSTRATE FOR ABRASIVE GRIT ADHESIVES

A substrate (10) for supporting an abrasive grit (20) adhesive top coat (18) having a curing system selected from the group consisting of acid-inhibited, base-inhibited and oxidative curing systems is disclosed along with a method for producing the same. The substrate (10) includes a latex-treated backing sheet (14) and a layer (10) of netural barrier material disposed on top of the backing sheet (14). The neutral barrier material is adapted to adhere the top coat (18) to the backing sheet (14) while separating the backing sheet (14) from the top coat (18). In so doing, the top coat (18) is permitted to cure without interference from either the backing sheet (14) or the neutral barrier coat.
