In order, when directing the weight of a pipe into a stuffing box adjoining a pipe section of a shaft line, to avoid deflection and buckling of the pipe section, caused by a thrust acting on the bottom end face of the pipe end plunging into the stuffing box, and nevertheless to be able to dispense with lateral pipe guides and lifting cylinders a throat is provided above the stuffing box in the strut pipe. The projection surface of the throat causes a tensile force which depends on the fluid pressure prevailing there, is directed downwards and is opposed to the upward thrust acting on the end face of the strut pipe. The said projection surface is selected in such a way that the tensile force achieved always overcomes the friction force in the stuffing box in order to make the pipe section statically stable. If no fluid is located in the line, the tensile force caused by the throat does not appear. In order to nevertheless overcome the friction forces of the stuffing box, even during temperature-induced changes in length of the pipe section, an additional weight is provided directly above the strut pipe. The additional weight causes an additional tensile force which is about 1.5 times the friction force of the stuffing box. <IMAGE>
