摘要 Measurements of the incremental non-homopolar quantities ( DELTA VA, DELTA IA, DELTA VB, DELTA IB) are made at each end of a line (1) in which a fault has been detected. The measured values of the incremental quantities or the values of the scalar quantities calculated from the measured incremental quantities are received at the same point, e.g. at a first end (A) of the line. This enables the distance d of the fault from one end of the line to be calculated from the said received values and the value of the characteristic impedance ZL of the line in the mode corresponding to the measured quantities. The calculation is carried out by assuming that the fault is similar to an incremental voltage source VD. The transmission of the measured quantities from the second end (B) of the line is carried out either in real time in the case of time-dependent quantities or off-line in the case of scalar quantities. <IMAGE>
