PURPOSE:To feed a large number of drawings at a time by using an image scanner to perform input of drawings that is usually carried out by an operator every sheet of drawings. CONSTITUTION:Plural sheets of drawings 1 containing the drawing identifying names 1a are set on a stacker, etc., of an automatic drawing feed device 2. Then only the input of the first drawing 1 is read to an image scanner 4 via the device 2 with operation of an operator. Thus the contents of the drawing 1 undergo a line thinning operation, etc., through a raster information editing circuit 6 and the data on the result of said thinning operation is stored in an edited raster information memory 7. In this case, the line thinning operation is also applied to the name 1a of the drawing 1 and the result of this operation is stored in the memory 7. A drawing identifying name recognizing circuit 8 detects the position of the name 1a based on the data stored in the memory 7 and then recognizes the characters existing at the position of the name 1a to convert them into character codes prescribed by JIS. These character codes are stored in a vector information memory 10 via a drawing name supply circuit 13.
