PURPOSE:To prevent change in liquid level and change in concentration of solution due to evaporation of electrolytic solution and to intend continuous use for a long period, by contacting a sealing gas to be fed into an electrolytic cell, in a gaseous phase, with a solution, which has the same composition as that of the electrolytic solution and is kept at the same temperature beforehand, and sending the gas into the electrolytic cell. CONSTITUTION:A sealing gas is used to shield an electrolytic solution for industrial electrolytic cells, voltammetry cells for analysis, coulometry cells and the like from extenral air. The sealing gas is fed to the interface between the electrolytic solution and the outside air. Namely, the sealing gas 2 is fed to an electrolytic cell 4, which has a cathode chamber having a cathode 5 and an anode chamber having an anode 6, with both chambers separated by a separating film 4A. At this time, a solution 9A, which has the same composition as that of a catholyte 5A, is inputted in a container 3. The container 3 is kept at the same temperature as that of the electrolytic cell by a temperature controlling device 12 and a heater 10B. The gas passes through the solution 9 in the container 3. The gas is evaporated by the vapor of the solution 9 and fed into the cell. Then the steam is not condensed and the liquid level is not increased in the electrolytic cell. Water is not evaporated from the electrolytic cell and the liquid level is not lowered. The concentration of the electrolyte is not fluctuated. Thus the accurate operation can be performed for a long period. |
