The subject of the invention is a method for controlling the temperature of the rotors of ultracentrifuges. Its aim is to shorten the temperature-control time, to reduce the expenditure in terms of apparatus and energy consumption and to allow immediate centrifuging of samples. It was based on the object of developing a method for controlling the temperature of the rotors in the centrifuge, specifically for the most common case that the starting temperatures of the rotors and of the rotary vessels are the same or virtually the same. The solution includes entering the intended temperature and recording the starting temperature of the rotor, as a known method. According to the invention, it is provided that the rotor is inserted in the centrifuge; the centrifuge motor and the heating/cooling assembly are started up, but not the vacuum pump; the temperature of the rotor surface is measured and increased by the factor 1.22; the temperature of the outer surface of the vessel is measured and reduced by the factor 0.22; the difference between the values thus gained is compared to the intended temperature; if they are the same, the centrifuge motor is switched off and the vacuum pump is started up.
