Catalytic components for copolymerizing ethylene with alpha-olefins, or alpha-olefins with one another, and possible with a diene as a termonomer, are compounds obtained by the reaction of: (a) a magnesium compound of the formula: R min yMgXn(OR)2-n wherein: X is a chlorine or romine atom; R and R min are the same or different and each is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical containing up to 20 carbon atoms; n is a number from 0 to 1.8, inclusive; y is a number from 0 to 1, inclusive; and n+y = 2; or a magnesium compound of the formula: MgCL2.mROH wherein R is as defined above, and m is a number from 0.2 to 6; and (b) a titanium compound of the formula: Ti(OR)zX4-Z, wherein: X and R are as defined above; and Z is a number from 0 to 1, inclusive; the reaction product having a Mg/Ti molar ratio of from 0.5 to 50, inclusive, and an OR/Ti molar ratio of from 0.7 to 10, inclusive. The catalyst components are used as catalyst in admixture with metal alkyls, especially aluminium alkyls, and the products obtained are suitably subjected to a subsequent vulcanization step. |
