PURPOSE:To economically carry out treatment of sand for resin mortar, by activating the sand while heating, neutralizing the activated sand with an aqueous solution of acetic acid, adding an aqueous solution of a surface treating agent, evaporating water and effectively and evenly applying a small amount of the surface treating agent to the surface of the sand. CONSTITUTION:Plural kinds of sand having a given grain size are blended at a speciic ratio and the blend is heated at 110-200 deg.C to active the surface thereof. An aqueous solution of acetic acid at 3.5-4pH in an amount of 2-7wt% based on the sand having the activated surface is then added to neutralize the sand. A surface treating solution prepared by dissolving a silane based or chromium based surface treating agent in an amount of 0.02-0.05wt% in water is added to the neutralized sand and stirred to evaporate and remove the water in the surface treating solution by hydrolysis using heat of the sand and only the surface treating agent is applied to the surface of the sand. Thereby the treatment of the sand for resin mortar is carried out.
