A seat, in particular for a motor vehicle, has a seat frame, a main seat spring in zig-zag form and coiled auxiliary seat springs which are arranged between the seat frame and the main seat spring, the seat spring arrangement being formed at a relatively large clear height with respect to the constructional height of the seat, between the surface of the seat spring arrangement and the seat frame and being deformed by pressure to the design or constructional height. In this manner, the seat can essentially compensate for the spring constant of the seat spring arrangement, even in the case of a low loading as someone sits down on the seat or in the case of a high loading as the person leaves the seat, with a relatively simple construction and without changing the basic construction so that the performance in respect of the comfort when travelling is improved.
