PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous stamping by automatically judging the suitability of a stamping article to a set position even if a different kind of a slip is mixed, by judging the suitability of a stamping position on the basis of the confirmation result of the set position of a confirming means and the recognition result of a recognition means and permitting the stamping of the stamping article only at the time when the position is determined to be suitable. CONSTITUTION:When a sip 1 is inserted, an image sensor 2 reads the entire area of the inserted slip 1 and a pre-processing part 3 stores formed image data in a video memory 4 on the basis of the electric signal of said image sensor 2. A slip size judge part 13 refers to said image data to judge the size of the slip 1 and informs a judge result (confirmation result) to a cross line stamp position judge part 12. The set position of a cross line stamp 8 is detected on the basis of the detection signal of a sensor 10 by a cross line stamp position detection part 14 to be informed to a cross line stamp position judge part 12. The cross line stamp position judge part 12 confirms whether the size of the slip from the slip size judge part 13 coincides with the set position of the cross line stamp corresponding to the kind of the slip and, if there is the indication of the cross line stamp from a control part 6 when coincides, permission is imparted to apply a cross line stamp permitting signal to a cross line stamp driver 7.
