PURPOSE:To improve joint strength by holding an insert material contg. specific ratios of Ca and Si, Al, etc., in place between a nonoxide ceramics and metal and subjecting the materials to a heating treatment at a prescribed temp. or above in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A thin sheet or powder which consists of 15-80% Ca and the balance 1 or 2 kinds of Si and Al and inevitable impurities or 15-80% Ca, <=15% Ti and the balance 1 or 2 kinds of Si and Al and inevitable impurities or the powder which is added with a binder is held in place as the insert material between the nonoxide ceramics and metal to be joined. These materials are then subjected to the heating treatment at >=900 deg.C and the m.p. of the metal to be joined or below in the nonoxidizing atmosphere. The excellent joint strength is obtd. by the above-mentioned method.
