PURPOSE:To obtain foil metal having good quality at the time of producing the foil metal by rapid cooling as bringing molten active metal flowed down from a slit nozzle into contact with a cooling body moving at high speed, by evacuating an atmosphere below a fixed pressure or non-activating to prevent oxidation and nitriding. CONSTITUTION:The molten active metal 6, such as REM, Hf, Zr or Ti, etc., in a molten metal storage vessel 1 is flowed down from the slit nozzle 2, and brought into contact with the cooling roll 3 rotating at high speed to cool rapidly and produce the foil metal 7. This operation is executed under vacuum atmosphere with <=5X10<-3>Torr. or non-active atmosphere 4 with Ar or He gas. As oxidation and nitriding of the molten metal and the foil metal products are prevented, the foil metal 7 having good quality is obtd. |
