PURPOSE:To provide the titled inhibitor containing specific unsaturated fatty acid derivative or its salt extracted from JIKOPPI (dried root bark of Lycium chinense of Solanaceae family or its relating plant) known as a Chinese crude drug, having low toxicity and excellent activity to inhibit angiotensin I- converting enzyme and useful for remedy of hypertension. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated fatty acid derivative of formula (R is H, lower alkylcarbonyl or aromatic carbonyl) or its salt is used as an angiotensin I- converting enzyme inhibitor. The compound of formula can be produced by extracting JIKOPPI with a solvent such as acetone, distilling out the solvent, dissolving the residue in hydrated methanol, extracting with n-hexane, removing the solvent from hydrated methanol layer and purifying the residue by chromatography. Concrete example of the compound of formula is 9- hydroxy-10,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid. The compound of formula has high safety and is effective for remedy of hypertension.
