PURPOSE:To obtain the titled element having an excellent time division driving characteristics and a good contrast by controlling a twisting angle of the liquid crystal to a prescribed range. CONSTITUTION:The rubbing direction 6 of the substrate composed of an upper electrode almost accords with an orientation of a liquid crystal molecule, and the rubbing direction 7 of the substrate composed of a lower electrode almost accords with the orientation of the liquid crystal molecule. The substrate com posed of an upper electrode and the substrate composed of a lower electrode are faced each other so as to control the direction and the angle 10 of the twist of the liquid crystal molecule to a range of 200-240 deg.C. Thus, a substrate having an optical rotating property brought from the twisting direction and the angle 10 of the liquid crystal molecule is added to a nematic liquid crystal inserted between the upper and the lower electrodes. While, the upper polarizing plate is disposed on an outer side of the substrate composed of the upper elec trode and the lower polarizing plate is disposed on a lower electrode, respective ly. The upper polarizing plate and the lower polarizing plate are disposed in such a way that an included angle 11 between the absorbing axis 8 of the upper plate and the absorbing axis 9 of the lower plate is at an angle of 30-60 deg.. |
