PURPOSE:To improve the yield of a product by subjecting a broad slab to cross reduction at the excessive compensation rolling reduction per time, etc., larger than in the case of a narrow width slab. CONSTITUTION:The broad slab 1 is subjected to cross reduction rolling at the rolling reduction S per time, or reduction length L larger than in the case of the narrow width slab 1'. The slab is rolled at the larger rolling reduction S or reduction length L and therefore, the rolling force acts to the central part on the inside of the slab 1 and the fluidization of the surface layer is suppressed, by which the formation of a fish tail is prevented. The front end rear end of the slab 1 can be consequently formed to the shape which is nearly rectangular. The narrow width 1' is rolled at the smaller rolling reduction S' and therefore, the projections of a fish tail shape are generated, and the front and rear ends preliminarily formed to a projecting shape are formed to a rectangular shape. The yield of the product is improved by the above- mentioned method. |
