The invention relates to a device for actuating container closures, in particular closures of radiators in motor vehicles. In order to protect the user from the emergence of the hot cooling water, for example, there are provided in accordance with the invention a device for receiving the closure element, a gripping piece located above said element for holding and a protective shield located between the device and the gripping piece to protect the hand of the operator. The gripping piece and the device are connected to one another securely against rotation.
