PURPOSE:To confirm characters inputted at each relevant time point with no shift of a display area even at a time point immediately after the replacement of the character of the final digit of the 1st line or the insertion of characters, by displaying both the character where a cursor is set and the character of the final digit of the line immediately preceding the line of said character where the cursor is set. CONSTITUTION:When characters are inputted, a sentence editing means 3 performs the replacement or insertion of those input characters and then given an instruction for the forward shift of a cursor. Thus the cursor moves forward up to the 7th digit from the final digit of a LCD display device 9 are then tries to move to the next digit. Here the displayed character is shifted by a digit. Then the cursor is moved to the 7th digit from the final one after the input of characters and therefore the characters within a display driver 5 are shifted by a digit. At the same time, the character data on the head digit of the 2nd line stored in a character buffer 8 is stored in the final digit of the driver 5 and then displayed. then the next characters are inputted.
