PURPOSE:To secure a discharge display panel provided with such an auxiliary discharge mechanism that remarkably reduces the extent of disturbance by black longitudinal streaks, by covering a part of the surface at the display cell observation side with a light shading material, and making a distance between luminescence centers of the display cell equal in the horizontal direction. CONSTITUTION:It is formed into one long cavity form along a sub-anode bus SAB, and auxiliary discharge is produced an and around an intersection point between the sub-anode bus SAB and a cathode bus CB, whereby excited particles are diffused to a display cell CL via a priming slit SL, thus discharge at the display cell CL is made so easy. A phosphor pH sticks to the side of a front face plate FG of the display cell CL, and it emits light with ultraviolet rays produced by the discharge. The front face plate FG side of a part producing a cavity for auxiliary discharge is shaded from light with a black insulator LS of ordinary width d2, performing such a role lowering a reflection factor against external light. The extent of luminous efficiency is not almost reduced as a whole, while since this part is shaded from light, a distance between luminescence centers of the display cell, for example, both distances between cells (CL-CL12) da as well as between cells (CL12-CL13) db can be almost equalized so that fundamental space frequency against disturbance by longitudinal streaks grows two times, thus image disturbance is sharply reduced. |
