Compositions comprising acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene terpolymers are stabilized by incorporating therein an organic dialkyl tin salt and, if desired, a polyhydric alcohol or a mercapto acid ester of a polyhydric alcohol. The tin salts may be salts of dibutyl tin with lauric acid, maleic acid, thiobenzoic acid, thioglycollic acid, 3-mercaptopropionic acid, 4-mercaptobutyric acid, 2-ethylhexyl thioglycollate, 2-ethylhexyl maleate and lauryl mercaptan. Specified polyhydric alcohols are pentaerythritol, sorbitol and mannitol, and mercapto acid esters thereof with thioglycollic acid, 3-mercapto propionic acid and 4-mercapto-butyric acid. Examples describe the stabilization of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene terpolymers with (1) dibutyl tin 2-ethylhexyl maleate/thiobenzoate, (2) dibutyl tin laurate maleate, (3) dibutyl tin dilauryl mercaptide, (4) dibutyl tin di-2-ethylhexyl thioglycollate, (5) dibutyl tin 3-mercaptopropionate, (6) dibutyl tin laurate maleate and pentaerythritol, (7) dibutyl tin 2-ethyl hexyl maleate/thiobenzoate and dipentaerythritol, and (8) dibutyl tin laurate maleate and pentaerythritol tetrathioglycollate. |
