1,027,814. Window frames. ALUMIN BUILDING COMPONENTS Ltd. Feb. 26, 1963 [March 19, 1962], No. 10413/62. Headings E1J and E1R. A window frame member supporting glass or plastics panes 25, 26 is formed of two channels 1, 2, Fig. 1, whose abutting edges are secured together with snap action by means of internal ribs and grooves 3 which either interfit with each other (Fig. 1) or with projections on a connecting member 8 (Fig. 2) loose within the channels. In Fig. 2 the two channels are identical but reversed so that the panes 25, 26 are offset. In a modification the member 8 is replaced by a member having a zig-zag web to provide increased resilience for the snap action. In a further modification the edges of the two channels are spaced by a longitudinal member carrying on each side a bar or a row of plates whose edges snap into grooves within the channels. In all constructions the glass is held against flanges 23, 24 by toothed members 27, 28. The channels and connecting members may be of aluminium alloy or of plastics, and may be filled with mastic, or with mastic around a wooden core. Instead of using the snap action the channels may be assembled by longitudinal sliding. |
