A colour photographic material comprises a film base supporting a silver halide emulsion layer containing a protective colloid other than a polyvinyl pyrrolidone copolymer, a colour coupler and, as a colour turbidity preventing agent, a copolymer formed from vinyl pyrrolidone and a copolymerizable monomer e.g. vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl butyrate, the methyl, ethyl, butyl and 2-ethyl hexyl esters of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid esters, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and styrene. The polymers may be added to the emulsion as solutions in alcohols monoalkyl ethers of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, esters, ethers, dioxane; tetrahydrofuran, ketones and amides e. g. lactams and dialkyl carbamides. Oil soluble couplers e. g. 4-benzoyl acetamido-N-butyl-N-octyl benzamide, 1-hydroxy- 4-chloro-N-dodecyl-2-naphthamide and 1-(2, 4, 6-trichlorophenyl)-3-(3-(N-butyl-tetradecanamido) -propionamido) pyrazolin-5-one may be added to the emulsion, to form a dispersion, in an organic solvent boiling above 200‹C. The protective colloid may be gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol or its esters, polyacrylamide, polyalkylacrylates, cellulose esters, casein or alginate. |
