PURPOSE:To enhance the water-proof and dust-proof effect of a distributor, by forming a flat surface section or a curved surface section in a dust-proof packing over the entire periphery of the distributor or over a part of the periphery thereof so that the surface section extends on at least either one of the housing side and the cap side. CONSTITUTION:A dust-proof packing 5 disposed between a distributor housing 2 attached to an engine body 1 and a cap 3 has a lip 52 which surely make in press-contact with both distributor housing and cap 3. Further, the packing 5 is formed therein with a flat surface section or a curved section 51 extending on at least either one of the housing 2 side and the cap 2 side over the entire periphery of the distributor or over a part of the periphery thereof to prevent water or the like from entering through the joint section between the housing and the cap. Thus, even if any gap is formed, the water-proof and dust-proof effect may be ensured, and further it is not necessary to increase the numbers of cap attaching bolts and cap clamps 4, thereby it is possible to enhance the productivity and maintainability of the distributor.
