A butt joint between two thin-walled, round sheet-metal tube portions, with in each case one annular rim on the tube end and in each case one flange ring resting on each annular rim, is simplified in terms of production and mounting in that the flange rings have a closed hollow profile of triangular cross-section and the two flange rings can be held together by a bracing ring which can be tightened. The flange rings can thus be produced from a zinc-coated sheet-metal strip purely by bending, and they can be seated on the tube ends from the outside in a very simple manner.
